  • 2 months of flu? You taking him to the same doctor? Take him to ER and tell them this has been going on for 2 months and your home doctor refuses to treat it other than what it is. ER will quickly dismiss "flu". Take with you all medications your son is on - bottles, inhalers etc. Also take all paperwork you got from Doctor from each visit. Explain to them that this is on going and that the patient has asthma, allergies and that the fever does come and go. If you are on an HMO call them and tell them what your doctor is doing and request to be moved to another doctor - or find another doctor. Obviously this is not the flu since its been ongoing for 2 months. You do have the right for second, third opinions from other doctors. I say ER because you can be seen quickly - 103 is high enough to be an emergency room visit for a child so young.
  • Go get a second opinion. I had a good friend and co-worker who thought he had a persistent flu for several months; and when he finally went in for a biopsy, it turned out he had liver cancer that had already metastasized, and he dropped dead two weeks later. Granted, it's a lot less likely in your case (my friend was pushing 50 and smoked like a chimney), but why take chances? Perhaps your son is allergic to something that's still in the house... Good luck to you!
