you should get her drunk at a karaoke bar, and when she sees how much people like her voice...

I once did a cover of 'Kryptonite' by '3 Doors Down' in high school. Everyone said it was like the real thing on the radio, but after doing it once, I got shy & I've never got in front of a microphone again, even with people urging me to. I know what your friend feels like, & unfortunatly if she doesnt want to, theres not a lot that will change her mind. Either she's comfortable with it, or she's not. She wont be the same if she's singing while she's nervous after all.

Record her on tape recorder or camcorder. See if you can put her singing video on youtube, that way you can share it with us and we can give our opinion as well.

My ex-wife had a VERY strong singing voice, and I thought it was good. I could never get her to sing in front of anybody either, though I played guitar and sang myself, occasionally in front of people. I would NOT suggest you record her and put it on the 'net without her permission. You COULD lose a friend that way. However, if she gives permission... (Maybe record it on tape, but put it into a video with nice pix and not her, don't say WHO sang it, and see what happens.)
