It takes a lot of inner strength and self perserverence. Kicking an addiction is extremely hard. You have to really want to do it, and depending on what addiction it is, remove yourself from that environment, even if it means losing so-called friends. Get into something healthy, exercise is a good way to keep your mind off of the addiction, and slowly you will notice progress, but that urge is always with you. You have to stay strong and not give in.

I'm not sure any addiction can be overcome alone. Even the quit smoking patches and gums offer help-lines to call when you feel weak. There are so many programs available these days for all different kiinds of addictions with lots of members. They've been through what you're going through. Why do it alone? There's no shame involved in these groups.

You just have to clench your jaw and take it. I just gave in to the pain and discomfort, kind of like giving up, but once the withdrawals passed (finally) my mind cleared and I was able to overcome it. it really took a toll on me though.
