  • Having one of my best friends call in some petty nonsense to my boss in order to try to get me trouble.
  • My 17 year old son got hit by a drunk driver and when I got to the hospital, the ER doctor told me he wasn't going to make it and would I like some medication? He's now 48 and disabled, but he made it through and has visual impairment, but good quality of life compared to what could have been. He also has a great attitude about it all that he eventually developed through AA.
  • Pulled over by a traffic cop while I was driving the race car on the public road, told to get my hands on the bonnet & dont move. I'd exceeded the speed limit by some really stupid amount (200km/h over the limit or similar) and they'd radioed a patrol car to intercept me at the next town. I lost my license for over a year, then got put on probabtionary good behaviour for another 6 months, and had to pay heaps to get my car back, because they wanted to crush it :( But I got my baby back, plus my license :) I tend not to do stupid things like that anymore.

  • I had to spend 2 days in Gauhati airport in 1971 before my flight was cleared for take off to Calcutta. Reason: The date of my confirmed ticket happened to coincide with the first day of the India - Pakistan war in East Benal which became Bangladesh in the end. Trouble is Indian territory is only 18 Kilo Meters wide at Siliguri, on the route from Gauhati to Calcutta. All flights, trains and road traffic over this corridor ware suspended for 2 days when the war commenced. My 2 days wait at the airport and the subsequent flight over a war zone can very well be described as the most horrowing experience in my life this far.
  • Being abused then having the cops my children called walk away after he convinced them I deserved the bloody face and the door off the hinges.
  • The death of my beloved dad in 1960. He was only 55. Thankfully, he passed on while he was taking a nap so he did not suffer. I still miss him. The one thing I wish with all my heart is that he could have lived to meet his grandson who was born in 1966.

  • Ages ago, when I was so young that I didn't think I could die, I was climbing up a cliff face, about 150m high - no ropes, no nothing. As I was hanging on to the outside of a rock, I felt the whole thing moving outwards, me and all. I slammed myself against it and it stopped, then I made my way up. It was only when I got to the top that I started shaking.
