  • Yes, I agree with the jury's determination that Cutts should not be sentenced to death. All murders are heinous crimes. Cutts' murder of his girlfriend and their unborn child was a heinous act. However, his murderous act was not uncommon nor especially heinous. People throughout this country can pick up their local newspapers and read about similar murders occurring on a daily basis. And, we don't condemn all murderers to death. The death penalty must be sparingly imposed only upon those offenders who are the worst of the worse. The death penalty should be imposed only on MASS murderers (e.g., Timothy McVeigh) or SERIAL murderers (e.g., Ted Bundy), and/or murderers who commit ESPECIALLY cruel, heinous, and depraved crimes (e.g., kidnapping and torturing a victim for an extended period of time and then pouring gasoline on the victim, lighting a match, and watching the victim burn to death as the victim screams in agony). Cutts' crime cannot be tolerated, but his crime was not committed in an ESPECIALLY cruel, heinous, and depraved manner that would warrant the death penalty.
  • I live in the city it happened it. It was a tense day and everyone was listening waiting for the verdict and text messages were sent to people who couldn't listen to the radio. The sentence was good, I don't believe in the death penalty.
