  • Are they getting married in the Church? Probably not if it is on Good Friday. If not, then this is grave matter. The two of them will be getting married without the knowledge and blessing of the Church. This deprives them of some of the grace that comes from the Sacrament to help them in their marraige. This will have a negative effect on them, but it may not be sinful. A sin requires that you know it is wrong and that you freely choose it (i.e. you didn't just dream it and weren't forced). A mortal sin (sin that kills the life of the soul), involves grave matter. If your daughter is getting married outside the Church, this is wrong, and if possible she should put off the wedding. If she can't do that, she will need to be reconciled to the Church. Talk to a priest about this. It may or may not be sinful depending on what she (and her fiance) know. Most people do not know much about the marraige laws of the Church, so give her the benefit of the doubt.
  • The Catholic Church does not permit marriages on Good Friday. It is not a Catholic Church if they are getting married in it on Good Friday.
  • Your daughter is likely not getting married in the church with a Catholic Priest if she is doing it on Good Friday. Catholics MUST be married in the church for the church to accept the marriage and since she's marrying another Catholic there is no reason to marry outside the church. She should be applying for a dispensation or permission to marry outside and if she follows the right channels, they will tell her what is and isn't allowed in no uncertain terms. Oh, and Congratulations!!
