This question is based on a recent question that got me thinking. Is there an analogy between christian religion's fear of going to hell to behave and the republicans fear mongering of terror to behave a certain way? Serious question.

Great question, Nelson. I think there is a close correlation, with Fear as a prime motivator. Those who prefer not to engage in critical thinking, will, like good little sheep, eat up whatever the power figures feed them (while smugly asserting that they are the exclusive owners of the Truth). I am not a "christian" but I have faith and I am a believer in Christ. I try to live better because of love, not fear of Him. I love Christ and I sin all the time. I try to do better but I will always sin and I have no fear of His love for me. Why would I fear Him? It is all in my hands. I do better to give back to Him for all He has done for me, for us.. not because I fear Him. Just wanted to clarify that. As far as the political issue I am sure there is a lot of manipulation but again.. we still have our hands in there a bit so there would be no need to fear. They only have so much rope to play with.
