That is the million dollar question, my dear, and one that pedophiles are working on. They figure that, since homosexuals have waged a strong case for them being nature not nurture, that perhaps they can fight the same case and who knows? in 20 or 30 years, be accepted.

not all pedofiles are abused or we would never have had pedofiles it could be many reasons the main reason is them bein victim of abuse at any age but the young age being the most influential or witnessing it done to siblings or parents can trigger it could also be a result of life situations where the child or adolescent has not developed properly and reverts back to school crushes it is so complex but that is the basics and is nothing to do with homosexuality

You are confusing ORIENTATION and SEX. Orientation is inborn, according to the AMA and APA. This is not a "choice," and it does not change. According to these scientists, this is very different from the CRIME of pedophilia. We always make choices about whom we have sex with. Sex isn't always about orientation - as with rape, many people posit that pedophilia is more about power and control than attraction. As such, it is a CHOICE of BEHAVIOR and not an orientation. Please do not confuse the two.

Uh, unless the AMA and APA have been pressured recently into re-writing their views on the matter, neither say that sexual orientation is inborn. Both reject so simplistic a theory as to human sexuality, especially aberrant sexuality. As for pedophiles, fact is 90-95% or pedophiles were themselves molested as children, yet 80-90% of people molested as children never become pedophiles. These facts indicate that pedophilia is most definitely not inborn, but that both circumstances and choices are the determining factor. Psychologically, pedophiles have a similar pathology to pyromaniacs and necrophiliacs, as well as serial rapists.

This is a difficult question to answer. You see, until the Gay and Lesbian Coalition staged a protest at the APA headquarters, homosexuality was also considered a mental illness. The ONLY reason the APA backed off of their original findings is because of the pressure from the homosexual community. Now, if we had a time machine, we could look in to the future and perhaps, by then, pedophiles will be accepted as being "born that way" as well. Whenever people want their behaviors accepted as "normal," they keep shouting they were "born that way" until people give in to shut them up. They call it sexual BEHAVIOR (whether it's heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual or pedophelia) for a reason. It's a behavior and all behaviors CAN be modified if the subject is willing. There have been countless studies done and STILL there is no evidence that sexual behavior is inborn or physiological in nature. Except in a few extreme cases, it is nurture, not nature, that determines our sexual behavior. So, no, none of it is inborn.

You answered the question without even realizing. Of the few that 'become' pedophiles that were molested, all they needed was a caalyst to trigger what was already in them. Each human when its born is wired predisposed for different behaviors. All of it is inherited. Anger for example, many men in a family exibit anger issues down through the generations. AND, even if no time was spent together by these men. The same can be said about any behavior. Gays are born with an inclination to be gay. Pedophiles are born with an inclination to have an attraction to children. Regardless of why they are how they are, gays and pedophiles have an peverted sexual attraction. BTW, I love the "One is harmless & one is not" line from above. I'll ask you this, if you cheat on a test or steal a penney from the till at work & no one finds out, Then no harm, no foul. Still doesnt make it right just because something is "harmless"!!

Possibly. Keep in mind that both "homosexual" and "pedophile" describe the desire, not the actions. Now, in the case of sex with children, there is the issue of the harm being done to them, so it is prohibited. In the case of sex between consenting adults of whichever gender, there is no harm done so it is ok.

Homosexuals and Pedofile are not even relatively the same as far as what you are asking. Yes anyone could be a pedofile whether it's a race,color, orientation etc. But you word it almost like homosexuals are bad people. I, myself am not. Besides that, my answer to your question.. I don't believe that ALL homosexuals were born gay. I took alot of time to realize, and once I had actually persued a relationship with the same sex, I finally felt at peace and whole with myself. I finally felt like everything was right. Therefore I can't imagine being with someone of the opposite sex again. Point being.. I was not. But others claim they were, and I cannot argue. My other sibling for example, claims he was. And I believe him judging on details of when he was growing up. Pedofiles? I don't think they were born that way. I believe that alot of the decisions you make and the way you live have alot to do with the way you were brought up and your surroundings..

There is evidence to suggest that pedophilia, being a mental disorder, is inborn, but that is subject to considerable debate. The difference between the mental disorder of pedophilia and the sexual orientation of homosexuality, is that homosexuality is harmless and no threat to society, and does not come with directly related mental side effects.

The word pedophilia translates as warmness, affection, esteem, for a child..strangely there is no use of the word sex in it's definition. Unlike homosexuality or heterosexuality which are clearly defined by the sex act alone (by consenting adults)...but of course we pretty much universally agree that sexuality is part of pedophilia even though in theory we classify it not as a sexual preference but as a form of paraphilia which makes it a mental disorder.

Homosexuality is different from pedophilia. Someone's orientation (whether they like men, women, or both) is something they're born with, but fetishes (such as pedophilia) are things that are developed over time. Fetishes are caused from childhood experiences that cause people to become aroused in unusual ways. I have one (not for children, though; mine is harmless), so I know that pedophiles don't really choose to be attracted to kids, but aren't born that way, either. Most fetishes don't hurt anyone, but pedophilia is one of the rare ones that can be traumatic to people when it's acted on. I'm alright with most fetishes, but kids could seriously be negatively affected by it. Unfortunately, it's extremely difficult, perhaps impossible, to rid oneself of a fetish, thus it can't really be "cured."

who gives a s*** if it's inborn? If it's some kind of mutation of the brain, we need to clear that mutation OUT, as it is dangerous and potentially extremely harmful to innocent children. I'm sorry if no one likes this answer but sometimes a choice needs to be made, defend the criminals, or defend the victims. We can't be compassionate towards EVERYONE unless we are willing to deal with the consequences i.e. letting sexual predators back out with the chance that your baby might turn up missing, raped and dead in a dumpster.

On a recent episode of Law and Order Dr. Wong (i think thats his name?) said that yes in fact pedophiles are born that way just like gay men and women etc are born that way...
