I would think that it would be served room temp. I doubt if it were cooled. Germans drink warm beer in Germany. Beer must have come from some sort of tapper, how????? Mug of beer and a bottle of whiskey in westerns

In the old west beer was served from kegs, but not in the fashion most people are acustomed to today. Beer was delivered in wooden kegs. These kegs had a cork that had to be removed and then a special tap could be inserted. The keg is then laid on it's side and gravity allowed the beer to flow. It should be said that beer was not a popular drink in the west until the 20th century. This is because the beer was not cold, and unpasturized so it could only be kept for a limited time period. Although some creative bar owners would place ice in a funnel and have the beer trickle over the cubes and into a cup to cool it.

Itsbomb is correct. Beers back then were made very locally because it was pastuerized and didn't last long. The large national USA brewers came into being because pastuerization and refrigerated railroad cars allowed long distance delivery and a longer shelf life. Most USA cities had several local breweries. There used to be thousands of local brewers in the USA. I understand that there are now fewer than 400, not including craft brewers. Canned beer was introduced in 1938--I'm not sure when bottled beers were introduced, but I believe it was sometime after the US Civil War (1861-1865).
