I use it on every computer. It's never let me down, although it has given a few false positives.

i use it and have yet to get a virus it could not get rid of. so i do not see any cons.

I would never trust any anti-virus thats free. There are trojans hidden in those downloads. They will eat your programs, then consume your computer. Buy the hardware that will protect your computer. Its worth the cost.

My dad put it on mine, I don't know if it's free or not. It works very well.

AVG Free is a superb product, regardless of what anyone might tell you. The reason it's free is because they sell a pro version that has extra features which cost money. This version is targeted at corporations that can afford to buy the software. This is a sound business plan. Although I have had no issues at all with AVG personally, I will admit that AVG is a good choice only for folks that practise safe computing. Folks who continue to perform what I call "high risk activities" on their computers may need better protection than AVG can provide. I say this because AVG doesn't always hold the user by the hand and get rid of all possible infections. Sometimes the user has to rely on external resources for the removal process. Detection is good, removal not always. Again, those who practise safe computing and/or have a solid knowledge of computer security are going prefer AVG over something like Norton - generally. Especially its performance. It uses far fewer resources than the better known paid products and causes fewer problems. I base this statement on experience - not opinion. Although I agree that some free software is a risk if you don't do your research in advance, painting all free software with an evil brush is plain fear-mongering and a complete lack of respect for the tens of thousands of professional and especially open source programs that exist in the world.

AVG is a very good anti virus, consistently scoring in the top four of all anti virus products available. As long as it's backed up with a good anti spyware problem, you should be fine.

Here is what I use on my computer, along with AVG Free. 1. PCPal Support Center 2. CCleaner 3. Regcleaner 4. Spybot - Search & Destroy 5. Advanced Windows CAre V2 Personal 6. AntiVirus I don't remember the last time I had a problem and I've been online for approx. 10 years now. I use all these regularly and they keep my computer free of virus' and spyware.

I have used AVG for years without a problem. I have Norton Pro on one of my computers and prefer the AVG over Norton as AVG updates quicker. I've never got a virus with either program but I run the computer with the AVG about 95 percent more than the one with Norton pro on it.

i used avg free for ages with no problem, Recently there was an update problem but got round that. then when i ran a spyware check i found that all my avg files were corrupted with a serious risk trojan called antivirus gold. i quarantined the avg files and then tried to reinstall avg free but had the same problem. i reported this very worrying situation to avg but as a free user they will not provide assistance. so am no longer using avg free and have switched to another product. any one else experienced this?

I don't see any cons at all. I love this program. I have been using free version of AVG for a long time.
