they're depressed because their relationship of a whole month went down the drain.....stupid things instead of knowing what really matters, or at least that's what i see and im 18...so maybe its just the age group

Keep in mind this is merely my opinion. I believe that this generation is a thinking generation. Through time humans have gotten smarter and most energy is now spent mentally rather than physically. The past generations would push their emotions aside and work physically until they dropped from exhaustion thus the saying shake it off. We got depressed but kept our emotions hidden and used work to mask it away from others. In todays world our jobs have become just as mental as physical if not more and we have to rely on our minds to stay sharp least we fall back to physical labor. Although we may become physically tired we have to keep in mind that our bodies are not conditioned like the older generations were as they could work often 12 to 14 hours doing the worst jobs out there.

more people aren't depressed, its just recognised more. and more people are realising that they are depressed.

work. life's biggest challenge, or obstacle, has been narrowed down to some extent the search for meaning or direction in life. there's something called the paradox of progress which is pretty much summed up in 4 points - 1.technology gives us all these time saving devices, but we have no time for anything it seems. [what are we looking for in that time?]; 2.generally speaking, we have more than we need, but for the most part, people aren't satisfied with what they have, and i'm not saying unhappy, it's just that there's a drive for more materials; 3.because of the times we live in, we're give so many choices in life, but the problem is now that we question whether we make the right choices or wrong choices too much, and this worry is stopping us from making any choices at all in many ways 4.we can control the world so much more than what any generation before us has ever been able to do, but because of this we're controlling the world and leading it right to it's own destruction. with all the improvements made in our world, none of them have really done anything beneficial for our emotional well being so much as our physical well being. we've lost meaning in a lot of what we do for the sake of work, work, work. but in the end, what happens? we eventually stop working, and then what? the job is truly important in life, but if it's the only thing that people have to id themselves, then what do they become when they have no job, be it unemployment or retiring? there has to be a deeper meaning for the mind or soul or whatever people call it. there's a hunger that we in our society are sacrificing for the physical pleasures which are overly abundant to us

It was probably the culture.Back than u suked it up u became a man or a woman, those words still stik around today which most of us refuse to listen too.We suffer because we go against those tradtions which label us as outcast/sinners thus leaving us feeling empty and dead.Trust me tradition of what we are suppose to be carries so many burdens thus causing all types of suffering and eventually early death(suicide is increasing)ppl are searching for a light of hope.I consider myself dead to those traditons and alive to a new me one that enjoys life in everyday because depression makes u sik in so many ways.I just consider myself dead to that man and alive to the new one which I leave worries behind, when I work I dont look at peoples hurt rather I let them see my joy n I give them that look that they need to have hope. Most ppl overdramatize things and worry themselves.Like I say they are 1 million things that can go wrong but ppl dont see that when they are already afraid.

one reason would be that they have more time to think about it where as in the past they would be working and doing things to keep them occupied. another reason is that people just feel that they are owed more today and dont know the real meaning of suffering. most of the people that are depressed are over things like "noone likes me" or "i feel out of place" "my boyfriend left me" all those things might be tough to deal with, dont get me wrong, but i'm sorry, there are millions of people in this world who have it so much worse than you. if you got to see some of those people, you would feel real guilty for feeling sorry for yourself. this is depression thats not caused by a medical condition im talking about.

I think people were just as depressed before, society has just changed now and being open is now acceptable when before, it wasn't.
-
I don't think there are more people depressed today than in the past. I think it is just recognized more often. In past generations, the ailments treated were often physical, not psychological and mental.
-
i dont think more people are depressed today than in past generations. i think that more people are admitting to being depressed and getting help because people are more understanding about depression etc today than they were years ago.
