  • Hands that have longer nails than yours? I would imagine there are a lot of people like that... My nails on my strumming hand are always longer than those on my other hand, because of the instruments I play. it's hard to play the notes correctly on the violin (and guitar) with longer nails, but the strum hand doesn't really matter as much because I use a bow (or pick).
  • My nails are the same way. The reason for this is because some guitarists finger pick. So, they grow out their strumming hand. Now you have learned something new about guitarists.
  • Advanced classical guitar players like to grow their picking hand nails longer so they can achieve a different tone picking with the nail rather than the finger, but this technique is only used occasionally. Long nails only work with nylon string guitars, If you tried to pick a steel string guitar with fingernails, the nails would break occasionally because the strings are so hard. I guess this is why they make fingerpicks! Personally, I don't use nails or fingerpicks; I do all my fingerpicking with the fleshy part of the finger.
