Viewing videos on my '88 21" Sony Trinitron, the picture becomes ghost-like, or gray with wavy lines, and audio static. Jiggling or changing the coaxial cable or thumping the top returns a perfect image, but it goes bad again after weeks or in minutes.

the tuner on your 20 year old set is failing, it has given you many years of service but it may be time to do some shopping- I suspect the CRT on this set is showing 1/3 brightness at the most & is way past the expected lifespan
