If the ball hits outside of the box on service then it is a fault, whether or not it is played on.
-
It is considered a fault

It is a fault no matter what. If they hit it anyways, then play should be stopped and the hit does not matter. It must land in the service box in order for it to be in and playable.

If nobody calls the ball out, and everybody plays the point, the receiver is effectively saying that he or she saw the ball in, so the point continues as if the ball were in. The serving team does not have the right to call the ball out on the first serve, but they can call the serve out on the second serve since it means they will lose the point. If the receiving team doesn't call the serve out, the serving team is obligated to play the point as if the serve was in. If it happens again, you should consider asking for a line judge.

If the player touches the ball before it pitches then the point is yours or even if his partner does the same then also the point is yours. If the ball has pitched and its outside the box then either there will be a second serve or the point is awarded to the opponent

Good tennis players play any ball that looks anywhere remotely close to being in, in case the line judge makes a bad call. If there is no line judge, it is up to the receiving side to yell out "fault" immediately when the ball is observed to hit outside the box. If they fail to immediately yell fault and play on the ball, then the point goes to whoever wins the volley. Thanks to "TheKnife" for the correction.
