  • Is health care a 'necessity' to life just as shelter, food, etc? Why or why not?
  • I never understood why it isn't considered essential. Without it, there is about as much chance of serviving as there would be without shelter and food. SO, yes, I think it should be thought of as a necessity.
  • It is considered a necessity in all civilized countries.
  • Because it makes sense. The government doesn't see the need for sense-making, do they? (Sorry, I've been without health care for a long time thanks to that...)
  • Because there is too much red tape involved and it is too expensive! The insurance companies would not be able to make as much money. Although, there is such a thing as welfare, medicaid, and if not all, most states have their own medical care at least for kids. But really, while all the talk has been going on about "Health Care", the insurance companies have been robbing everyone blind. Making their premiums, group and individual coverage go up, taking more things away, and making more rules and stipulations which end up costing the consumer more money in the long run. Something needs to be done to bring them down a bit!
  • I've thought about this and honestly I am torn. If you break a human's truely essential needs it comes down to knowing how to survive in the middle of nowhere. Food and shelter (shelter includes clothing at this point) are essential. But this means self reliance. There is no health care other than what you can do to either avoid injury or perform self aid. That is taking it to an extreme. In reality, we live in a society where we have learned to rely on other people for some things, and we contribute to the society with certain expectations of a return. Health care should be expected. I'm not a doctor, but I've installed computers for doctors while working for companies that offered health care as part of my compensation. There needs to be an exchange. If I am out of work, I get no health care unless I pay into it. But I've been laid off and had no health care due to no fault of mine. I've paid my share of taxes, and rather than those dollars going to sports stadiums and campaign funds, they should be going to a base line health care system.
