  • Don't try to say or do things to cheer him up. Just be there - quite literally - be there with him. Ask him to go run errands with you. Go grab a burger. Watch TV together. Just hang out and chill until the worst of it passes.
  • Since he is feeling emotions, arguing with reason doesn't work. Emotional reactions recquire an emotional approach. You want to look for other things about which he has a strong emotional attachment, like favorite music, activities, people, places, etc. The ideal would be to dress him in his favorite clothes, take him to his favorite place to do his favorite activity while listening to his favorite music and be with his favorite friends. In other words, hit as many of his emotional keys as you can. The idea is to first distract him and let him focus his emotions on other things and then gradually get him to focus on the rest of his life and the promises it holds. It might help if you could find some hot chick to asssit.
  • take him to the pound and rescue a puppy
  • it sounds like your doing a pretty good job! Keep it up! ur a great friend, hes lucky to have you! xx
  • I know this might not sound that cool.... But write a letter telling him that ur his friend and his happiness is important to you. You know what you want to tell him. But write a letter, seal it, and put it somewhere you KNOW he will find it (bedroom, locker, backpack, whatever.) But what will happen, if your letter is moving enough, is he will read it and throw it down, and within an hour he'll pick it back up and take what you said to heart. But don't ask him about it, pretend like you didn't even do it. You will then reap super friendship rewards.....
  • either don't leave him alone or tell another friend or one of his family members to stay with him.
  • You are enabling his behavior. He needs to sort this out for himself sooner or later. Let him know you're there for him if he needs you for support but he's got to figure it out, decide how to trudge through on his own. You cannot fix it.
