Take a long soak in hot water. It'll soothe the aches. If you have access to a hot tub or whirpool, that would be even better.

What happens is that during exercise you are actually causing damage to your muscles, (i.e. small, microscopic tears in the tissue). THIS is why your muscles are sore. The muscles will heal. Sometimes it may take several days depending on how much damage they suffered. If you do not stretch the muscles will heal and your muscles will be tight causing more pain. Given time and stretching the muscle will heal AND be more flexible. You won't suffer from any pain then but you have to keep the muscles stretched in order for them to improve.

Hopefully your coach is intelligent enough to have you guys stretching before doing these exercises. Continous tearing of muscles and ligaments will cause permanent damage depending on the location. If you can't bend over and walk then you are definitely injuring some serious muscles. When you injure a certain muscle, you have to remember that they are pretty much all connected the way they wrap around the skeleton and will cause pain in other areas and also pull things like oh say your vertebrae out of alignment. Sounds to me like these coaches need a lesson on human anatomy and physiology.
