Fred Phelps isn't even close to being a notable enemy -- if anything, he produces a backlash effect: homophobes don't want to be associated with him for fear of being tarred with his brush. Really, the worst enemy is the anonymous person who is too "polite" to admit their bigotry, but quietly votes for the anti-gay candidates, quietly indoctrinates their children into hate, and smugly snarks at parties about the same-sex couple at the vegetable tray.

Can ask what you define as "anti-gay"? Do you publish your list? If not, can you email it to me? I want to make sure I don't encourage them.

I'd say "Dumb-Ya" is pretty high up there, along with several right-wing rabid commentators like Coulter, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, etc. Internationally, don't forget Ahmedinijad (sp?), who denies that LGBT people even exist in Iran, and Jamaica, which continues to persecute LGBT people.

Fred Phelps and all the little Phelpsies are not GLBT's biggest enemy..They are our best promoters...People look at them and realize how stupid the whole homophobic response is...Think of how very much Anita Bryant did for us with her Florida Orange Juice shit.We would never have come as far along without her..(I still won't drink it!!)...but these people are so ridiculous that it makes all homophobes look like they are equally insane....I encourage the Phelps clan...not because they haven't done a lot of short term damage--they have hurt a lot of people...BUT as far as long term effects go..they are our single best promoters

at least they are out in the open and you can deal with them ...its the homophobic bigots that haven't the balls to come out and state their intentions but would rather slither behind your back and stab you all the while smiling as they do, pretending to be your friends ...yet wiping their hands with sterile wipes so they don't get Gay/lesbian/bisexual germs from us...at least the ones on the list you can stand up to ..its much harder to fight your enemies when you don't know who they are ...:)

the quiet, biblethumpers who spread their hate secretly to politicians, who try to remove our rights

john rocker, charls barkley i don't care what famous people say and fred phlps is just about the best advocate for gay rites there is. even evangelicals cringe when his name is brought up. in the end it doesn't matter what these people think about us. what matters is what we think about us and what the average person thinks. every time one of these yahoos opens their mouth we win converts to our side! in my opinion we should all be out there helping ol' fred paint signs! he does our work so well! lol

There are many people who criticize LGBT people, including Fred Phelps, Dr. Laura, & Tony Dungy. The worst enemies, however, are those who are not so overt in their hatred and mask it as a mere dislike (with phrases such as "Hate The Sin, Love The Sinner") which is nothing more than an attempt to make themselves appear as caring instead of prejudiced and bigoted in order to get others to think the same. Phelps is so extreme in his hatred that he is easily dismissed, while those who are more subtle with personal prejudice are not. When the President of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary reversed his previous positions and said "I am absolutely confident that a large number of homosexuals are telling the truth when they say they did not choose that orientation" after seeing scientific data on homosexuality he was criticized by groups such as the American Family Association and Focus on the Family because his statement did not support their agenda to deny certain legal rights to LGBT individuals. It did not matter that he changed his position due to facts... it mattered because their goal is to pretend that homosexuality is a choice worthy of discrimination that can be "cured" or changed. One of the most outspoken people claiming that they were "cured" from being gay was John Paulk, who became active with the anti-gay groups Focus on the Family and Exodus. He was "cured" to the point that, after marrying and having children, he went to the Washington D.C. gay bar Mr. P's where he purchased drinks for other bar patrons for over an hour and later claimed he did not know it was a gay bar and only entered to use the restroom. (He is no longer their spokesperson for becoming an "ex-gay".) Hatred & discrimination, no matter how it is phrased or justified, should never be condoned nor tolerated. The "enemy" are those who know nothing about having a sexual attraction to the same sex and call it wrong. The "enemy" are those who tell someone questioning their sexual orientation that they made the wrong choice and can change if they want to. The "enemy" are those who, through their words, promote and propagate the high rate of suicide among LGBT individuals by saying that they are wrong for how they feel & wrong for who they love. http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1599987,00.html http://psychology.ucdavis.edu/rainbow/html/Paulk-Southern%20Voice.html

I would say the Exodus campaign. It is yet the biggest attempt at producing "ex gays".
