I think they are problematic, but necessary. You're always going to have organized groups when determining candidates for an election. These groups can be permanent or temporary, but they are always going to be there. They are a necessary evil, but there are ways to minimize the effects of the corruption. The question is how we do that when everyone who can oversee the problem is part of the problem.
