  • Is the gear fully engaged? Is the clutch out all the way? If your clutch worn? Have you ever ground the 5th gear? Does it simply pop out and into neutral? "Rejects" is not a good term to use. Please clarify your problem.
  • there is a lock system in the shifter assembly that locks the gears in. I am experiencing the same thing, haven't had a chance to check it. But I heard it is a locking mechanism in the shifter assembly (what the stick shift is built into)
  • I had the same problem the said I needed a new gear box but idk
  • I had the same problem with same car but only it was 1st gear. It can be fixed but it's not advised. I got the same advice from 3 different gearbox mechanics - get a reconditioned gearbox with a guarantee, that the best thing to do. Going the repair route will eventually break again, gearboxes are very sensitive. If you do repair you're may as well replace all the internals which means you could just as well get a new box. Hope that helps.
