Couldn't agree more! There seems to be a lot of people who like to generalise and stereotype others, sometimes I wonder if it is simply because they feel this way or that way and so to make themselves comfortable they 'assume' everyone feels the same as them.

I personally, don't like it one bit. I think it another way of putting people in judgement and categorizing them in ways that are wrong and unethical.

I think that only the bigoted and uninformed continue to stereotype and generalize, even after they have met individuals from the group they are slandering. I think they mainly display their own ignorance and hatreds.

I agree my friend that very few generalizations work. Humans are far to complicated to be generalized; however, they are often generalized for this very reason. In other words, it's kind of a sad convenience. Some do not wish to take the time to look beneath the surface of the individual; it's just not convenient to step out of their own little world and expand. Compassion takes effort and sadly, many just don't wish to put forth the effort.

Some people seem to need to be part of an "us" who are allied against a "them" to feel valid. Sad, isn't it?
