My mother was a alcoholic but it doesnt run in the family.

Apparently it ran on my mothers side. My Grandmother had it and someone else like her mom or aunt or something. Fortunately my mom saw how it was and it was never a problem for her. It never was a problem for me because I'm just not a huge fan of getting drunk and feeling like shit the next day.

There are or were people with a history of alcoholism on both my Father's and Mother's side. It hasn't really affected me, I have just seen it happen. I drink alcohol occassionally myself but I would never let it be a regular habit or let it screw up my life. The family doesn't deal with it, everyone just hopes that those addicted will end their addiction eventually...but as time passes and nothing changes this chance only becomes smaller.

No, not on either side. I'm a trend setter! Nah - not really. I rarely drink. My oldest daughter's father is though, so I have been talking to her about it for several years now.

My brother is an alcoholic, it has ruined his relationship with his daughters and his wife and the company he has worked for, for 30+ years recently strongly suggested he retire. My mother makes excuses for him and blames it on his stressful life. I have reached out to him and had him let me down so many times I can't count anymore. He claims he'll get help then doesn't do it. It's frustrating, it's sad, it makes me very angry yet I also feel sorry for him.
