Ask around local musicians - the most sought after engineers will be the ones to look at. Listen to similar material to yours, listen to different people's work - bear in mind that a good engineer is not necessarily a good producer! You can do this job yourself if you use your ears - how do you want it to sound? You need clear recordings and a balanced mix of instrumentation. Most engineers/producers learn through 'doing',ie they learn through experience and you should give this a go. At least if you do it yourself you can go back to the drawing board as many times as you wish. Good luck.
