  • Unfortunately this is an all too common problem. The good news is that the bugs help break down the matter faster, the bad news is that they get into everything! I tried lacing the lid with surface spray. Worked pretty good. Also, try adding Tansy (a plant) to the compost, along with marigold leaves, basil (a waste of tasty basil, I know) and other aromatic plants. I found this helped a lot.
  • Don't add any animal remains and make sure that it's not rotting but composting. Turn it often, keep it moist but not wet, and give it plenty of sunshine and insects shouldn't be a problem.
