I believe it varies by state or county. Corporal punshment was permitted in Florida schools years ago when I worked there. It was never allowed in New Jersey, where I work now. I don't know about other states.

I don't think it is necessary in school. If it is practiced in the home and the children are raised that way, infant to teen, there should be not a need for spanking in the school system. The spare the rod spoil the child philosophy went out of practice with the Good Book . . .

i think only parents should be allowed to discipline their children through physical punishment. PADDLING or using any sort of device to inflict pain on a child is wrong, if it needs to be done it should ONLY be done with the hand, open palm.

No, I was in 8th grade in Loisianna, and was paddled once. THe teacher was a big grown man and he seemed to get a kick out of it. Very creepy.

It doesn't bother me to spank my children, but my husband and I are the only ones who have the right to make that decision. I would probably go nuts if the school tried to paddle my kids. So it's a big no for me.

I don't approve of spanking children by anyone..strangers, friends, family, parents..it is child abuse in my view. I think it teaches kids that if you're big enough you can hit..why do you want to teach your child that? :)

I personally think if parent's aren't going to discipline the child at home and the child is going to come to school and be a discipline problem to the point that other children can not learn, schools have to step in and do their own discipline. I do not think it is the first option. Most schools do suspension which is stupid because take a kid who hates school, that is what he wants.. but if you have tried in school suspension, taking away recess, whatever and everything else there is to try, if that is what it takes to control behavior i am for it.. the spanking not abuse and again I say THERE IS A DIFFERENCE and SPANKING IS NOT ABUSE. It should be done with another teacher in the room to witness it and parents should be given the option to come to school and take care of it themselves if they choose to first. However, if parents were going to take care of it and cared about the behavior of the kids, they would do it at home. DRd me if you want but I have been in the school system since 1989 and NEVER have I seen so many disrepectful kids in my life.. when you cant send your kids to school without having to worry about another kid shooting them, I say do whatever you have to do to keep our kids safe. I am in no way saying beat the kid up or beat his ass..that is abuse. I am saying SPANK..not abuse..you can spank..and not leave marks and get the point across.

Where I live spanking is illegal so they couldnt do it, and frankly if they had ever laid a hand on my son I would have had them up on assault charges.

Spanking never stopped me from acting up in school - indeed it drove a wedge between me and a certain teacher so far as to me going to the principles office and requesting another classroom as I simply wasn't going to have anything further to do with her no matter what they did to me. And I got what I wanted and became a model student. So much for spanking as a motavator!

My kids went to christian private schools for the first few years and I and all parents had to sign a permission slip for them to be spanked with a paddle it necessary. This was of coarse after two warning and a call to the parent at which point you could come get your child or let them stay and get spanked. I remember being spanked in the 3rd grade when I was in school, public school) and I remember the teacher that done it and to be honest with you she will always be remembered as my favorite teacher that I had. However that could have gone another way as well. She was a great loving and caring teacher that also did not put up with no disrespect and I respect that now. To answer you question YES I think it should be allowed in schools by certain people, not just all teachers spank them if they misbehave. There should be guidelines and they need to stop suspending these kids from school all of the time for anything and everything and sending them home on a 3day vacation. That is real punishment there.
