  • Just politely tell him that he's not right for the position and offer to give him a reference. However, you are the boss of this person and if they don't fit, they need to be told. Nice or not, if someone isn't doing their job, they need to go. You don't really have to be that nice about it. You're their boss, not their friend.
  • What kind of job is it? If he's a nice person, he'd probably be good in retail. Maybe you could suggest that you don't think the job is right for him, but you really think he would be good at a different kind of job. Only say that if you mean it and offer to be a reference for the jobs you suggest he would be good at. Whatever you do, confront him about him being fired. Does that sound good to you or not?
  • Be honest with what his problem was or he will just repeat it at his next job.
  • the less said the better, have more than 1 person with you. (the nice people are always psyco) and have to postive reinforce ment helps. I once had a new super cry and say I wanted to keep you thay wanted to fire you, she follwed this person a close second. Anyone 'in charge' has to support this term. say someting like. were sorry but your not a good fit here and we have to let you go, it not personal it's buisness. Don't let the employee back you into a corner and ramble on if your in an at will state you don't need a reason the one above is good enough
  • been there many a time. I think the best way to do it is be honest and upfront. Do not offer sympathies or apologies (or they will only go emotional on you) do not say anything more than you need to say. Try something along the lines that the company needs to make some cuts and his perfomance has not been up to par, as a result the company has decided to terminate his employment. Just try to remember it is nothing personal, it is not your fault and he is responsible for his work ethic, you have nothing to feel bad about even if he is a nice guy. You get paid to perform a service and he is not meeting the company expectations. I think the nicest way to do it is to be honest, upfront and professional about it.
