I think if we're talking about extremes then it's about equal measure. I've had many more times of feeling happiness, or at least a sense of peace and contentment for me than the opposite. However, since joy is, for me, less frequently experienced and shorter lived - I experience it as a wonderful high, like being on top of a huge wave - then I think of it as a sort of gift, a reminder that there's something more. Almost a Platonic thing. When I feel sorrow I tend to feel it as a more drawn-out emotion, a grieving process. Despair is more drastic and thankfully, for me, similarly to joy, short-lived. Despair takes me down beyond hope and I know it's the opposite of joyfulness and the spirit of life, the will to live, so I try to resist it.
