They certainly can be, the companies have chosen to manufacture them overseas because it is cheaper for them to do so.

Because our workers will not work as slave labour. They could not live on the money the Chinese are paid. That is the reason the west has lost so much of the manufacturing industry to Asia.

Because it's a lot less trouble for your wallet if you get some Chinese folks to make your toys.

Just imagine what you buy from China for $1 is sold at $20. Not feasible there at all!

I beg to disagree. There are still lots of western toy companies which don't manufacture partly or at all in Asia. Playmobil for examble has a plant just a couple of miles from my town. Industries in the US or as in my case Germany still can compied when they are highly automated. The problem is, you have to have a highly skilled workforce and engineering resources. I lived quit a while in the states, and I don't think the workforce is stupid or lazy. I think the american managment and business leaders are at fault.

because in the past chinese workers have been willing to work for appallingly low wages and no benefits and without workplace safeguards and tariffs (import taxes) were ruled unfair by the international powers-that-be. in a sentence, because the american consumer would rather pay $15 dollars for a chinese made doll that would cost $50 (or more) to produce in the US

They can, but then Wal*Mart wouldn't be able to keep lowering their prices to get you to buy from them. The manufacturers want the customers in the Western world to buy their products, but take no responsibility to make sure those customers have jobs that pay well enough to be able to keep buying the products. It's an unsustainable cycle that hasn't hit the wall yet, unlike the credit cycle.

Well they can either spend money creating it or they can have it shipped and then sell it. It is alot cheaper.

It's much cheaper to make them overseas. If it was cheaper here, they would do so. Many companies are leaving this country and going to others because of regulations that restrict their businesses and other countries aren't as strict and because it costs less.

We could, but cant do it as cheaply. We have labor laws here. We cant pay kids to squat and work for pennies, that is why they can do it so cheap. LOL. -
Because some companies would rather save 30 cents making a product somewhere else than keep jobs in their own country.

People in the USA want higher wages than workers in China are prepared (glad) to accept. Chinese factories are less regulated (less safe) than in USA.
