I have a smart idea for a web-site, but I have zero web design or programming knowledge. If I get someone else to setup & operate that side of the business, how can I be assured they won't steal my idea (or purposely design problems/faults into the site)?

Get a decent contract drawn up. Non disclosure and confidentiality clauses would help and if the work is deliberately sub standard you can sue the backside off them.

Good development companies don't do that - they don't have time

You are never guarantee that someone won't steal your idea. You can't patent ideas. You can only hope that you will be the first on the internet with the idea and establish yourself before someone else copies what you have done.

You can write a nondisclosure agreement into a contract and copyright your ideas.
