  • I have had my gallbladder removed it isn't that you forget how to cough but you try not to cough because it hurts and you tend to breath shallow because when you take a deep breath it hurts and makes you cough.I hope everything goes well for you I will be praying for you.
  • The gall-bladder is close to the diaphram which you use to breathe with. The surgery itself COULD tramatize it a bit. I don't think you really forget how to cough (it's more of a reflex), but it hurts for a while after surgery. You may want to try different ways of "clearing your thoat", the way you hold that area (muscles or even with forearm), etc. Wife had gall-bladder surgery. I don't remember any instructions like that... I just know she tried to keep her coughing gentle and to a minimum for a while. Consider it as exercising your diaphram, much the same as you'd exercise your leg if you had surgery on it. Good luch.
  • Deep breathing and coughing lessen the probability of contracting pneumonia. Deep breathing and coughing will be uncomfortable, at the very least. If you are still groggy for any length of time you may forget to cough, but you don't actually forget how. When I had my gallbladder out, when I woke up I felt very alert..it depends on what they give you. It's really not that bad, though. Sore for a few days and that's about it.
