You could take a half dose of caffeine by drinking black tea or about a quarter dose by drinking green tea. One of the best ways to avoid getting tired in the afternoon is to eat very little and mostly protein. Carbohydrates during the day make you sleepy. For staying awake it's better to eat a couple small meals rather than one large lunch. For instance, having a piece of fresh fruit mid morning, a small bit of protein, like a yogurt at lunch, and some raw almonds in the afternoon will help keep you awake. Of course, there's also no substitute for a good night's sleep.

Mt Dew.. I dont drink coffee either and that was always what I drank to wake me up, and btw energy drinks are really bad for you and you can actually overdose from drinking them, there has been no long term studys done on how they affect your health after drinking them for long periods of time

Do you exercise in the morning? A great culprit of headaches and fatigue is a lack of water and exercise. If you can get in at least 10 minutes of cardio in the morning, followed by a few pints of water, you should notice a great difference. It was proven a few years ago that eating an apple would wake people up more than multiple cups of coffee. The action of working your jaw and digestive muscles seemed to assist in alerting individuals far more than simply swallowing. Most "good" energy drinks are only useful if you are active in the first place. Even supplements and drugs such as Viagra and Enzyte are more effective in active individuals than inactive ones.

I like a nice cup of tea when I get tired, and I do not make it too strong.

I have been enjoying a fruit and yogurt smoothie after lunch, and it has been very gratifying. For me, as a Mormon, coffee and tea (other than green tea) are verboten, but the smoothie satisfies me consistently without caffeine or tannin. Hot chocolate is also a likely candidate.

I have heard that eating an apple is supposed to make you wake up more than caffiene will.
