Two suggestions 1. If the printer supports it, just set it up as a network printer directly. It would either have a RJ-45 jack to plug a CAT-5 cable into or a wireless antenna. 2. I suspect yours does not, so assuming it is already setup on your desktop, you can simply share the printer on the network. Then, on the laptop, just add a network printer and specify the ip or computer name share name for the desktop and printer.
