  • Minituare Schnauzers are good, they dont shed. I was always a fan of labradors and German Sheperds( alsaesins ,cant spell it) Whats your price budget because i think Schnauzers are like 900 dollars
  • do you have any animal rescue centres where you live. Thats were my friend got all of her pets from - it's great to give them a second chance.
  • i got the perfect answer !!!u can never go wrong with a beagle or bassett hound..great for kids and they really adapt well to all environments.and no bassetts do not have a smell to them,if u have been around 1 that does.then their not taking care of the dog very well
  • Firstly, I would suggest looking for a puppy in a shelter. Pet stores encourage breeding, and there are already way too many dogs murdered each year because of overpopulation - anywhere from 6 to 12 million! Also, you need to consider factors such as the size of your house/apartment, whether you will be both out all day (as some dogs need more human contact and exercise than others), the finances (big dogs eat more), the propensity for certain breeds to have more health issues than others), etc. Finally, don't forget to think about ongoing costs of ownership, which are mainly food and medical. It is reckoned that the average cost of owning a dog, during its entire life, is about $13,000. (Cheaper than a child, but still not pocket change.)
  • These are great answers. I would like to reinforce going to a shelter (or at least anywhere but a mall type store). Many pet stores encourage local adoption animals. The mall type stores almost exclusively carry puppy mill puppies...need I say more? For breed, consider the size of your home and availibility for exercise. Some dogs are great in small apartments and don't need as much exercise. While other dogs need more space and more exercise. Good Luck!
  • i have both breeds and they do not howl or get anxiety,i have 7 bassett beagles pups right now at 7 weeks old and they are almost potty trained..good excellant dogs, with wonderful personalities...did i mention their 4-sale
  • Firstly I would definately recommend taking several dog breed compatibility tests alongside with your partner such as www.selectsmart.com/dog/ to see what breed would be most suitable for your lifestyle. I would also purchase a puppy direct from a breeder rather than a pet store as they will beable to provide you with more specific care information, do your research. Some need constant companionship, some do not get on with other animals, others need lots of exercise and stimulation etc. Can you invest the time? Having a dog becomes part of your lifestyle. Secondly if you are concerned about the price of purchasing the puppy I would consider the long term costs in providing and caring for the dog throughout its life when it is fully grown, you may have children (either now or in the future) and other financial commitments, when the dog ages. If the dog develops a long term medical condition would you be able to maintain its veterinary care in 5-10 years time? or would the dog become second choice to a new kitchen or bathroom and end up back in a welfare centre. I don't want to patronise or be mean but they are another life you are responsible for not just a cute puppy to cuddle and play catch with.
  • Never get a dog from a pet store, usually they are from puppy mills and are not the best or most healthy pups. Instead, if you are interested in a certain breed, find the breed club and get information from them, and talk to their rescue groups. Often they will have one in each state. Or visit your local shelter and rescue groups and see what breeds they have there. Some allow you to take them home and give them a try to see if you all get along, and if there are problems, you can bring them back. They also offer good information and sometimes freebies to encourage you to adopt, like free vet visits and coupons for supplies. Call around. It's worth it to drive some distance for that perfect addition to your family.
  • Dont ever buy a puppy from a pet store. They are more expensive and usually the worst pup in the litter. The breeder couldnt sell it thats why it ended up in the store. Decide what kind of dog you want, and just google the breed. You'll find breeders in your area. Craigs list has lots of free or low cost pups, And take a trip to your local Humane Society. You just might find a young full grown dog you'll fall in love with who's already house broken.
