hey. i was on the depo shot. imnot saying this will happen to you but it totaly changed my personality. i felt like i had PMS all the time, and i experieced alot of breakthrough bleeding, which i was told is a normal symptom of it. why dont u try thepill insteadÉ remember, depo is what is used to chemically castrate , it is a lot more studied in that respect that what it does to womens bodies. typical tho eh. i dontwant anyone to thinkimpresenting it negatively im just saying what happenedto me was not positive atall.

I have been on the depo shot for 8 years now, the first year I gained weight, but after that I lost it. A lot of it is water. HOWEVER the depo shot takes calcium out of your bones and you need to take a supplement. It does put you at risk for fractures. (I have broken my foot twice in 2 years) I am 28 with Osteopenia which is the stage before Osteoporosis. The weight gain issue with depo all depends on the individual. Mine wasn't that much. Most real OB-GYN's do hormone testing to determine which method and pill would be the best for you. There are side effects with them all. But the depo is serious with the calcium issue. I take bone density vitamins now. Pick one that is convenient for you. I like the depo because I don't have to deal with periods.

First of all, birth control options should be your choice and your decision to make. There are many methods of safe birth control to choose from and the depo-provera shot is one of them. Since you can only receive the shot through a doctor, that person is possibly your best advisor concerning which birth control methods would be best suited for you. Like with all medications, the depo shot has some possible side effects - like weight gain. A friend of mine gained 20 lbs. in one year while being on depo-provera. Do some online research and then talk to your doctor. Good Luck!

The pill is a much more studied method, i know someone whose monthly cycle seems to be really messed up with the depo shot.
