The fact of the matter is that symbols have whatever meaning those who use them choose to give to them. The serpent has commonly been used to symbolize Satan because of their connection in the story of the fall of Adam and Eve. However, in the case of Moses, the serpent actually came to be a symbol of the Savior. Looking to the Brass Serpent saved the Israelites from physical death when they were plagued by venomous snakes just as we are saved from our sins when we look to the saviour. Many people have tried to claim our use of these symbols indicates that we are actually Satan worshipers. Nothing could be further from the truth. We do not worship Satan. We recognize him for precisely who he is, any enemy of God and us. He is doing everything that he can do to stop us from returning to our Heavenly father.
