  • yes.. you can take the man who didn't take unless your opponent took one of your men with another piece. This is called "huffing" Some people exclaim "Huff you for not taking" whilst they do it.
  • In many checker games, if you have a jump that can be made it is mandatory to actually take that jump. If you move another peice instead of taking the jump, you can "blow" that peice(or "huff" as another person put it). That basically means, if I don't jump you when I had the chance to, you can remove the peice from the board that had that opportunity to make a jump. If you have two or more jumps possible, and you make one of those jumps, no blowing/huffing can be done. If you can make multiple jumps (double-jump, triple-jump, etc), but don't, even though you did make a jump, you can still get blown/huffed for not making all the jumps you could have in that turn. ************** Keep in mind though that blowing/huffing a peice is often considered a HOUSE rule, so if you plan on incorporating that into your strategy, make sure that you make it known that this rule will be enforced at the beginning of gameplay.
  • I was just playing a friendly game of Checkers where Huffing was incorporated, we came across a sticky situation.... I jumped forward with a king and then jumped backwards with the king (as a double jump) and was to land right in front of my opponent who could jump me, ( of course ) i didn't want to give him my king that way, I didn't want to jump the second time and went to put it back to the original 1st jump position... then the whole huff question came in? Have you ever come across this situation and is there an asnswer other than i was going to loose my king no matter what..... please email a, any response to slsteinius@hotmail.com
  • huffing is really an outdated rule. If you CAN jump, you MUST jump, period. The player who committed the violation simply takes back the illegal move and makes the jump. keep in mind that, if more than one capture move is available, you can choose either one, you do NOT have to choose the move which captures the most men.
