The center star on Orion's belt has been special to me for the last 20 years. Here comes the corny story, even though you didn't ask: My mother and I picked that star when I was being deployed to Panama. We agreed to go outside every Saturday night at 10:00 (adjusted for time zone) and look at it. It made us feel closer, because it was an object we could look at together. Much like a vase on a table. I later watched that star from 6 different countries, sometimes in some pretty adverse situations, and It always made me feel closer to home. Because my mom could see it too.

To a point I am. We live in a city and the city lights wash out the stars (are brighter than the stars). When out in the country I am amazed at how many stars you can see. I have never made a lot of sense out of the constellations though. I guess I haven't gazed enough. LOL
