I have *nothing to back up my answer but hearsay*, but here goes anyway: Whatever the wife owned before her marriage is hers to keep; it doesn't become community property. HOWEVER, and that's a big 'however', once they have been married as long as the step-mom in question has, *ALL* property becomes community property. I suggest a GOOD Civil Probate attorney be hired on behalf of the step-mom to protect what property, in my opinion, is hers.

No. It's dosen't go into the father's estate. Any property that she owned before the marriage is hers.

What is the difference between an estate and probate lawyer in Alabama?

It remains her property. The greedy son will just have to do without it. The Jerk!
