No, the US is not up for grabs as a result of the Olympics. So no country can "win the US" based on their performance. Individuals can win medals, and so can groups like relay teams. There will naturally be commentators to tally up the medal counts of varying countries. Quite often the host nation does better than usual - after all, they didn't usually have to travel far or acclimate to different conditions. Still, I think it's not really fair to say one country "beat" another in terms of medals, unless you divide the medal total by the total number of participants. This ratio, I feel, would be a better performance measurement.

China is working very hard to get the most Medals ever. Everyone (athletes, coaches, trainers, government)is focusing on that. The Chinese people have great pride on this matter and will certainly expect this. I think China will achieve its goal and the US will be second or third in medal count.

Maybe, maybe not. China has been working hard. Generally Chinese people are very strong-willed and have great pride and patriotism, from what I've heard. However, USA has won the most medals in probably every recent Olympic and USA has a pretty good reputation with sports.
