  • A better thing, and just as "Lent-valid," is to do something EXTRA for Lent. Is there something extra you can do around the house? Can you volunteer in your community? Help a neighbor? This also puts you in the right frame of mind - and to boot, it helps someone else!
  • I suggest you give up giving things up this year
  • OK, give up Answerbag.
  • I've done soft drinks in the past, also alcohol. One year I gave up listening to my radio on the way to and from work, and used the time to think and reflect, instead.
  • You could give up self-denial... ;-)
  • I think you should give up something that would be the greatest sacrifice for you (while obviously not causing your death). :)
  • Well, what is the offer? And how much are you willing to give up?
  • Too Late, Lent began on Wednesday. It is the thing you enjoy most that you should give up. Maybe next year that gives you a long time to decide :)
  • ask yourself why you are choosing to give something up, and your reason should help you select something of equal value. So if you're doing it because you have to, then pick something you don't care about, because you don't care about giving something up. If you care a great deal and it's a faith-based thing, then pick something that you will truly miss. As a side note, I must ask, what sort of all-loving being would demand that you live without something anyways? Certainly it doesn't make sense to me to go around making oneself suffer, it almost seems a mockery of the gifts and suffering that Jesus himself suffered so that we wouldn't have to. Anyways, follow your heart, or your religious leader of course, whichever you feel fits your life best.
  • I don't know if this will help, these are what I have given up in the past: Television or a favorite television show. That was quite an undertaking as I only watched 2 television shows once weekly. Magazines. Newspapers. This also helped because reading the negative going on helped me to become more positive. Shopping at a favorite store. Surfing the web. Text messaging which I turned off accessing online with a simple check mark. I hope these help!
