  • You don't really. Unless you mean, sleep 2-3 hours, then eat, sleep 2-3 hours then eat. It will probably be tough for the first 3 months. This too shall pass though. Keep that in mind.
  • My babies always had a fussy time that they were awake for 3 to 4 hours straight. The rest of the time they were pretty much sleeping and waking to eat. That fussy time was different for each of them. Because we gave them rice ceral at 2 weeks they began to sleep 12 hours or overnight around a month old. Now, they only get milk or formula I guess. How did my kids ever grow up . . . I smoked, drank alcohol and only gained 15 lbs. per child as told.
  • I suggest reading the book 'Baby Wise' - you can ignore everything you read, except the scheduling part - it works!!!
  • Be patient. You can try to force a sleep schedule on them at that age, but personally I don't think it's very healthy yet. You can begin to develop a sleep schedule by making a "bedtime" where you turn down the lights, put on quiet music, or lie the baby down and sing a lullaby or something and try to get him (or her) to sleep. But don't expect the sleep to last as long as it will in a few months.
  • Good luck trying. It may take a few months, but it will happen sooner or later, you just need to be patient. All babies are different. I don't think there's a cut and dry way to do it, if there is I didn't know about it... You can start by setting bedtime at the same time every night, and getting a bedtime routine, a nice soothing bath with some lavender baby wash, nice soft pajamas, a few lullabies, and dim lighting all help.
  • To tell you the truth most babies make there own & until you get used to reading their signs (tired/hungry/attention) its going to be hard to figure it all out. My baby girl is 3 months old & we are now in a fantastic schedule which she basically did herself i did not force anything.... she wakes up around 7am we feed her change her nappy & then she goes straight back to sleep & sleeps until 12 noon then its a feed & nappy change again most of the afternoon she will be awake just kicking around the floor staring at the ceiling those sorts of fun things, feeds again around 4.30pm & a change of bum, more awake time until about 8.30 when its dinner again & bum change & then she sits up & has a little conversation until 9-9.30pm where she will then sleep through until the 7.
  • LOLOLOLOL!!! Here's my trick. When he wakes up to eat, feed him 1st! When he falls back to sleep then change his diaper. He will wake up and want more food. You get more bottle into his belly in one setting this way and the more he eats, the longer he sleeps....if you do this every time, you will get him to sleep for 5 hours through the night in 1-2 weeks. It also helps to have a bedtime routine. Don't just let him fall asleep on you at night, but put him in his bed.
  • a way to make them sleep consistently? give them some captain on the hour every hour =P
  • At your baby's age, you don't. You sleep when the kid sleeps. As the kid is awake more, you're awake more. But at the child's current age, don't try. It's a lost cause. Wait a few more months and your child will likely develop it on their own.
  • My son is 9 weeks old and we just set a good schedule last week. I made the mistake of thinking that the more I kept him awake in the day, the better he would sleep at night. That was totally wrong. As soon as the baby shows signs of being tired (yawning, heavy eyes etc) start the naptime routine. If you wait until they are fussy, they won't nap well. If I put my son down for a nap at the first sign, he'll sleep for 1 1/2 to 2 hours but if I wait until he starts to fuss I'll be lucky if he sleeps for 20-30 minutes. Start a routine for bedtime and focus on good feedings (so he/she doesn't wake up hungry) and good naps and the schedule will fall into place. I was very frustrated 4 weeks ago but everything is working great now so just give it a little more time!
  • 4 weeks is a little young to have your infant on a sleep schedule. I was not able to set a schedule until my children were about 10 weeks after they stopped eating every 1 and 1/2 to 2 hours and started to eat every 3 to 4 hours (going for a 6 hour stretch at night).
