I need to install a new version of AOL , should I uninstall the previous version first? It has been so long I have forgotten which way around. Can anyone help please I need to get to my email?

create a free email account at http://gmail.com As an internet service provider, AOL has issues. look around for another provider.

Like Dirigo said: It doesn't matter at all. If you uninstall the old version, then the new version will be installed and update it. If you leave the old version, and new version will replace it and update it.

I just read that you reinstalled AOL. May I give you a tip: try their web interface. You can read you email with it from everywhere in the world in your browser. This does not need any installation. Here the address: http://www.mail.aol.com/ To answer the question, I think that a clean installation (first uninstall) would be the best if it is a much older version. Actually, I had automatic updates on my last AOL version. I found that sometimes not so good, however... On my new computer I did not install AOL at all. I only use the web interface.
