  • I couldn't find much on injuries to the cornea (the clear circle that covers the iris and pupil) caused by static discharge. I'm guessing it's pretty rare since eyelashes, eyebrows, or eyelids are likely to be the contact point, in which case it might be a little startling. But a strong spark directly to the cornea would probably be VERY painful because it's so sensitive. There could be temporary erosion of the corneal epithelium -- outer cells like floor tiles -- leading to many exposed nerve endings. Mild corneal injuries usually self-repair in 24-48 hours. I suppose if the spark is big enough it could seriously damage the cornea permanently, leading to blurry vision but probably not complete blindness in that one eye. Ask your eye doctor.
