Oil companies will loose money if canada and the US use alternative fuels. brazil uses alcohol for their cars 90% use it, brazilians laugh at us, they say we have been getting ripped off, why cant we go alcohol? besides loosing money why?

We have a very powerful economy that is based on use of the petroleum products.

It currently takes more energy to make a gallon of alcohol than you can get out of it. Plus we have a limited production capacity. Ethonol may be a good alternitive in the uture but for now we cant make enough of it cheap enough to make a difference.

Ummm...how about because of all this environmental shit huge portions of North America's manufacturing industry has moved overseas. I am not willing to help the environment because I like making a good living, and even if I did help the environment my job would move to China or Mexico where they would pollute anyways. So I will just keep my job. You have to remember that the oil industry drives a HUGE part of our economy.

Brazil has the room to grow crops for alcohol, we don't. If we grow nothing but corn or grasses for alcohol your produce will become very expensive along with your beef,sheep and other animals that eat some of those crops. Also, all the machinery and fertilizers used to grow crops use oil.And it would take a lot of oil to grow crops for alcohol. Keeping alcohol just as an alternative fuel is the most prudent way. Diesel vehicles that get over 50 mpg are on the horizon in the next couple of yrs. And they run a lot cleaner then in the past.
