  • Indeed, he most certainly would have had middle-eastern, Arabic features. But people portray what they know, especially when Christ began becoming depicted in European art. The people at the time would not want Jesus to look different than themselves.
  • he was a jew - he spoke arimaic and he was an israelite. find a picture of a nazarene since that's what they called him
  • He definitely would not have had a western European appearance. In the region he is said to come from the people were pretty dark skinned
  • Yeah, he was a Jew from the middle east so he probably looked very middle eastern.
  • every race has an image of Jesus in their race. he was one of many races. he was the universal man. no one really knows what he looked like. we can only guess. sometimes logic isnt the best solution for finding the answer.
  • arimaic was the language he spoke, and he was a descendent of isaac, one of the sons of abraham. but if you go to mexico, you'll see images of jesucristo very mexican looking africa will have a black jesus it all depends on the countries. but yes you are right he wouldn't have been very white looking at all
  • The truth is: all people portray human figures in terms of what they are used to. This was true in Western art, until recently. It was also true, and is still true, in many other artistic styles. If you look at ancient Roman representations of Christ, he looks like a Roman, if you look at Greek representations, he is Greek. Even today, if you look at Christ through the eyes of an artist from China, or Bali, or even in the Maori congregations of New Zealand, you see Christ portrayed as they see their own people. However, in reality, he would have resembled someone from the Middle East, because that was where he was born and that was his heritage.
  • Seeing that Jesus was Jewish and could get lost in a crowd of people, I'm sure He looked like everyone else. I agree, the "fantasy" paintings and sculptures depict Christ as being a frail, thin, and sad-eyed white man with long straight hair and wispy beard. I hardly think that describes Jesus.
  • I wish I could spend more time on this question, but I recalled a verse from the Bible stating that Jesus had hair like wool, which would give an indication of his ethnicity. I just can't find it quickly to back that up. So, there's a thought to add to the debates. If I can find something later, I'll post a comment.
  • who says he even existed at all?
  • Not in my society. Jesus was dark and roungh looking because of the sun and weather. But god is not arab at all he is all in one, so you must take all skin and mix it together and we get the shining of glory in Jesus. don't use racism in the Lords matters.
  • Apparently Jesus looked very similar to the Jewish men who followed him. How do we know? According to the Bible it was necessary for Judas to establish a 'sign' (he used a kiss), to identify Jesus to those seeking to kill him. This would not have been necessary if his appearance was markedly different fromt the men around him. - (Matthew 26:48) Now his betrayer had given them a sign, saying: “Whoever it is I kiss, this is he; take him into custody.” The frail, blue-eyed, fork bearded Jesus portrayed in certain artwork has no basis in the scriptures. It is a product of the imaginations of men.
