Al Qur'an means 'The Recitation'. It's a collection of revelations made to Prophet Mohammed through Angel Gabriel over the final 23 years of the Prophet's life. Mohammed memorised it and instructed appointed scribes to write the verses down and arranged as directed by him. Hafsa a wife of the Prophet and daughter of Omar, the second Khalif was entrusted with custody of the original manuscripts from which other copies were made and sent to various regions of the rapidly expanding Muslim world. Thus the HQ is the only scripture that is available today letter for letter as it was revealed. This miraculous preservation is promised in one of the verses of the HQ itself. HQ 15:9 says “We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption).” The ‘We’ at the beginning is God using the royal, majestical ‘we’. It is the final revelation from God for the guidance of mankind. A manual intended to bring out the best in man from the Creator of man, and who would know better than the Maker Himself. The messenger through whom the HQ was revealed to mankind was the seal of the prophets, the last and final one of them. This is in HQ 33:40 which says “Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but (he is) the Messenger of God, and the Seal of the Prophets” The HQ touches on all aspects of life, spiritual, personal, social, political, moral, philosophical, scientific, business and military. It identifies itself as The Qur’an several times and states that it is a revelation from God and that its purpose is to guide mankind. All those are in the HQ itself. It promotes a universal religion with one God who is the creator who will judge all equally on the sincerity of their belief in Him and their obedience of His commands. If anyone approaches it without a closed mind it can transform their lives. Its recitation has touched the hearts of even those who did not understand what was being recited. One could go on…. . The guy in the video below was not a Muslim when he first read a translation of the HQ .

One of the (& Final) book of God Will not make sense unless a significant part is read. If read in a translated form (not Arabic), can be very unreliable to trust translator.
-
its a holy book just like the bible, torah, etc. and should be treated as such.

I find that any book that advocates violence against anyone that doesnt believe as you believe, is openly racist and should be band. I dont see any religion based on klan writings.

Very few non-Muslim Americans have read the Koran. I too have failed to do so, although it is on my reading list and hopefully I will get around to it, or significant portions of it soon. I think that it is immensely ignorant and rude of us as a society to not try to educate ourselves more about the culture of Islam. But because our public schools do not do so, I am obligated to self-educate. I am 42 and have yet to do so. I feel that this is just as much my fault as it is the public school system's fault. I have two brothers who practice the Muslim faith and have had Ramadan with clients of mine. I have worked with and known Muslims from this country, from Africa, and from the Middle East. I have known Muslims from below the poverty line, those who were extremely wealthy, and many in between. I do not believe that I am as ignorant as some, but more ignorant than is beneficial for my country.

I started reading some online translation, and by the time I got through the first section (verse? chapter?) I lost the ability to take the book seriously anymore. I swear it was telling me to string up, immolate, and/or stone to death non-belivers. I re-read the same part at least 10 times until I finally understood it was supposed to be a metaphor of the suffering non-believers will face in the afterlife (I hope that's what it meant). I hope it was simply a bad translation. It did give me an insight to the thought process(or lack thereof) of radical Islamics, though.

i'm very neutral about it, it's a religious book and i'm not a religious person.

"It is a Revelation sent down by (God), the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful." HQ 36:5 "In the perspicuous Arabic tongue." HQ 26:195 "the spirit of Faith and Truth came down with it to thy heart and mind, that thou mayest admonish." HQ 26:193-194 "Verily this Qur'an doth guide to that which is most right (or stable), and giveth the Glad Tidings to the Believers who work deeds of righteousness, that they shall have a magnificent reward" HQ 17:9 "Say, "The truth is from your Lord": then Let him who will believe, and let him who will, reject (it)" HQ 18:29

I wish I knew Arabic, cause I hear Arabic speakers say the Qu'ran sounds very poetical, if you can read it in Arabic. As for its meanings...I don't know if I wouldv'e relied on one single man to say what God said. People often worry about there being too many people who wrote the Bible, but it's actually a positive thing that many people contributed to the Bible and it all makes sense (people who don't think it makes sense usually just don't take the time to actually study it, even if they don't believe it). Why trust one man who said God spoke to him, and have no other people who are able to confirm it is true?
