  • Because belief, by it's very nature means one doesn't know and many people cannot face the fact that they don't know. It makes them feel profoundly vulnerable and afraid. A 'natural' human response to this is to either try and get others to accept one's delusional beliefs or to lash out at those who don't, or who point out that a belief is delusional.

  • This an old question since mankind existed. The life of many slaves was sometimes much better and much more comfortable than a life of a free person. Living for its own means to overtake risks and overtake responsibility for your own life and this can extremely fail if you make the wrong decisions for your own life. Being a slave you have to obey but your mistress or master overtake any kind of responsibility for you. For most people it is more comfortable to give their own responsibility to others.
