  • Race cars, boats, and (the new one) planes are pretty spendy.
  • How about Formula One or NASCAR racing? (Although I consider this driving, not a "sport.") Those cars are quite expensive!!
  • horse riding I would say. here is why ( or at least for me)............ Helmet- $200 Saddle- $1650 Bridle-$100 grooming stuff- $50 boots ( for horse)- $40 show jacket- $150 show boots- $200 paddock boots- $50 breeches- $75 show bags- $125 Boreding fee- $500/ month fee per show ( rated show)- $650 trailer- $3500 feed/ hay- $100/ month heavy duty truck to pull the trailer- $24000 last but not least a show horse- $50000 winning your first show- priceless, haha. so this is pretty expensive yeah? =)
  • Yacht Racing. A 280-foot yacht will run you about $100 million. Not including a 50 member crew.
  • Certainly it has to be Formula One. In 2008 $3.073 billion was spent, not including travel and accomodation which the drivers had to pay for, as well as all the press e.c.t There is no sport in the world that spends that much. The average cost for a point in F1 is about $4.7 million. For just one point. And drivers can get hundreds of points in a season. I don't see why people don't consider F1 a sport. Horse riding is basically driving a horse (and its an olympic sport, and people consider it a sport) Yacht racing is basically driving a yacht (and its an olympic sport, and poeple consider it a sport) Why not F1. People don't actually realise how hard F1 is. Look at Richard hammond. He drives supercars everyday for a living. He stalled an F1 car the first time he got into it (youtube it, or buy the new top gear DVD) F1 drivers can take a car from 250mph to 50mph using only the strength of their legs. They can cope with up to 6G's for hours on end. I bet even Usain Bolts legs aren't strong enough to take a car from 250mph to 50 mph in a few seconds. I don't think people realise how much effort goes into beign an F1 driver. IT is truly incredible.
  • There are many sports that are so expensive it's usually a corporation that owns the equipment, not an individual. Even with horses, show jumping is probably more expensive than polo because apart from the specially trained horse, your hospital bills would be astronomical every time the horse decides at the last second that it doesn't really want to jump that next one.
  • drag racing, nascar $330k cars $100k engines, about 5-6 used per season racing slicks tires $500-1000 each good for about 10 runs maybe? Nitro methane fuel $50 -100 per gallon (used in GPR not MPG) transportation to and from not everyone has sponsors
