Mormons consider Joseph Smith to be another prophet who it is said found a tablet in north america and also found the "urim and thummim" which he said were special glasses which allowed him to read the tablet. It is said he was visited by an angel named Moroni who told him a bunch of stuff. Mormons do not really consider Jesus Christ to be God. Just another prophet really.Without getting into extensive details, Mormons do not share many of the common beliefs held by Christianity just as Muslims do not hold many of the common beliefs of Christianity.

If you mean on Answerbag specifically, it is because some users requested a separate category. The categories used to be added according to requests from members. I don't think they are any more.

Short Answer: Mormonism is it's own religion with its own totally unique theology, and has nothin fundamentally in common with the various Christian sects and denominations. Just claiming to "follow Christ" means nothing, as they have their own radically different and unique ideas as to who and what Christ was and what it means to follow him. Bahai, Moslems, Manichees, Unitarians and New Agers claim to "follow Christ" too, but that doesn't make them Christians either. Long Answer: Mormonism is NOT Christian: their doctrines are contrary to the historic creeds of Christianity; the LDS is not a member of the World Council of Churches; they believe the Book of Mormon and 2 other heretical works by Joseph Smith (Doctrine & Covenants and Pearl of Great Price) are as authoritative as, and in fact superior to, the Bible; the LDS teaches that "Father God" was once a mortal man on another planet until he got promoted to god-status, and now he lives on the planet Kolob with his spiritual harem making billions of spiritual babies who incarnate here on earth, and that if you're a good Mormon (and ONLY if you're a good Mormon) and go through all of their special rituals, then when you die you'll get promoted to god-status too and will be given your own harem and planet to rule and yet another planet to populate with spiritual children. Christianity, by contrast, despite its inner divisions, still has a cohesive identifying body of primary doctrines, basically encapsulated in the ecumenical creeds. Though there are many sects, denominations, etc., it can also be broadly divided into 3 groups: Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestan - the principle distinctions between them being (a) liturgical and (b) doctrinal: a disagreement about how certain passages in the Bible should be interpreted and who should do the interpreting. Islam likewise is subdivided into various sects and sub-sects (the big ones being Sunni, Shia, and Suffi) but all are united by the centrality of the Koran, the 5 Pillars, Mohamed, and Sharia law in their religion.
