I would naturally want to call you "Peng".
-
I actually had a friend whose name was shortened to "Peng". That would work well for English speakers!
-
How about PingPong thats catchy.
-
sheng, pengy?
-
This is such a cute question. I like the sound of "Peng". I also like the sound of "Sheng".
-
I lik Peng, it is unusual and exotic sounding. I think people will make silly comments about Pen, like Pinhead, etc. :)
-
Penguin. Or whatever you want buddy.
-
I like Peng, but make sure they don't pronounce it like ping. Get the E in there.
-
I like Peng. I have a fondness for Asian people.
-
My sister in law's boss was from India and he had a completely unpronouncable name for English speakers. It was something like Vangshontsopragmi but eveyone around him called him VP. You could always opt for PS or PG.
-
Shen is pretty slick. Go by "SHEN".
-
Ni hui bu hui shuo hanyu? Wo ai ni de ming zi. I'm sorry if you can't understand that, I've been dying for someone to speak Chinese to. I'm just learning. Anyway, I agree that Peng is a good shortening, as long as you make sure people don't mispronuce the "E" You could go by Pip like the main character of Great Expectations.
-
Maybe Penn.
-
Penn is really cute and sounds like your original name. Don't go by anything you won't want to answer to.
-
The variations on your Chinese name are all very nice and acceptable, but if you want to adopt an Anglo name, I suggest you go with "Peter". There are surely enough clues in your name and presence to remain faithful to your heritage, but there are certain advantages to having a name common in western culture, and some of these have been highlighted in previous postings, such as the increased likelihood of mis-spellings and mispronunciations. In my opinion, if you would twist your Pengsheng name into something else that would require everyone you know and will meet to make an adjustment, then you might as well stay with Pengsheng, which is actually a very nice name. On the other hand, if you want to minimize the impact of your name, Peter will do the job nicely, as will its short form, Pete. Good luck in your choice.

The name Penn is not very common, yet is familiar enough to english speakers to be easy to understand. In America there is a magician with the first name Penn and an actor with the last name Penn. The only problem would be telling them with 2 n's. Pen with one N would work, but is just slightly odd. The other option Peng is very nice except, as you said, you will end up spelling it for everyone and they probably won't remember it, just that you have a funny name. That's what you are trying to get away from in the first place. Shawn could also work. Just My opinion.
-
Peng would be fine but I was going to suggest Peter would be good but noticed somebody else suggested it first.
-
tell them to call you Peng, like Peng Pong. Easy to remember.
-
I like Penn, like Penn and Teller! Penn Jillete! Great comedian!
-
